For some reason when it try's to do the update it fails at about 80%.  It can not find the installation package (C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AB0000000001}\AcroRead.msi).  The only package I see in the adobe folder is ({AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AC0F074E4100}) which I believe is the new update, but the older version in not found at all on my computer.  The reference in the Programs and Features panel is incomplete and will not uninstall.  To sum up:  I can not uninstall or update Adobe Reader XI on my computer because it is not yet completely installed, and there are no other older versions found on the PC.

What do I do?

Hi michaelm72671663

Please refer the troubleshooting steps provided in this KB doc: Fix Windows errors that occur during Acrobat Reader update

If you still experience any issue, you can use the cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs  to remove the application and restart your system.

Then try to install Adobe Acrobat Reader from this link: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution
