Best practices for automated invoice PDF generation and barcode rendering in inventory ERP

Hi everyone,

We are developing a custom inventory management and ERP billing module that automates the generation of GST-compliant invoices and dispatch slips containing dynamic Code 128 / QR barcodes.

We want to ensure

when these documents are rendered and printed via Adobe Acrobat Reader across different client environments.

Could the community share best practices regarding:
1. Recommended font embedding standards (TrueType vs Type 1) to prevent barcode distortion during client-side Acrobat rendering.
2. Standard DPI and vector scaling settings to ensure barcode scanners can reliably read Code 128 barcodes directly from printed PDFs.
3. Managing silent print or auto-print parameters when triggering PDF print queues from web-based ERP systems.

Any technical recommendations or configuration tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Colorful_experts0b94 ,

Is this software creating these documents automatically?

Does it have any settings that allows setting up mannually a  default layout or default font settings before it commits to the printing action?

For example, the best approach is to make it a PDF/UA compliant PDF. It will retain the embeded default font permanently , making the document look the same on screen, print or mobile devices.

This is important because Adobe has announced the sunsetting of of TrueType Type 1 fonts since 2022. Meaning, that you will be able to view and print but not able to edit with Acrobat, unless the desired font is embedded properly before the export to PDF.

Because I am not sure if the software that you are using is a tool that allows  PDF editing  (like you would with  Acrobat Pro DC, or Microsoft Word, the best approach is to check if  the ERP Billing software provides that capability.

In this particular case, and if I am not mistaken, billing software platforms in general don’t provide PDF/UA compliant capability. In which case, you may need to oursource a third-party extension to achive that.
