Best Practices-have a question for research purposes

thank you for taking the time to respond.  I don't think there is really any difference, a PDF is a PDF.  I just need to know if there are any best practices that relate to sharing by sending a document for comments by email, or sending for shared commenting, tracking comments, or comparing documents. 

There is a tool within Adobe Acrobat that is called "Send for Comments" that I am trying to find best practices for.  Hopefully this bit of information can help the community elicit a response appropriate for my situation. 

Again, thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it, and any help or direction is welcome.  I am constructing a research paper based on the above comments, and need to incorporate the practices into one of my own PDF documents that I will eventually create.
