can't open PDFs

I can't open any PDFs that i receive in an email. It says, There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

I don't believe they are damaged bc it happens to all of them. I am on a Mac running OS X El Capitan with newly installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. What am i doing wrong?

Actually, the fact that it happens to all files you receive by email does support the theory that they are all indeed damaged.

Some email servers don't encode PDF files correctly, which will cause them to corrupt when sent. I suspect this is what happens to you.

Contact the people in charge of your email address and report the issue to them.
