Cannot re-install Acrobat

I downloaded CS5.5 back in 2011 and everything worked fine for 4 years. Then, my Acrobat no longer started working. I tried to un-install and re-install, but I can't get it to work. It keeps saying I have it installed but the program does not work. Please help!
