Creative Cloud crashes when trying to update Acrobat DC

Hi,

I'm trying to update to the latest Acrobat DC *without* removing Acrobat XI.  I know from other forum posts this is [supposed to be] possible in the Creative Cloud tray app by selecting "Update" for Acrobat DC, then clicking "Advanced Options" and clearing the "Remove old versions" checkbox.

However, when I try to do this, and then click Update, Creative Cloud immediately crashes.  It's doing this on two different computers - one Windows 7 Pro and the other Windows 8.1 Pro.

Other Creative Cloud updates install just fine.  It only seems to be an issue with Acrobat DC, and only when trying to keep old versions intact.  (I say this because I initially did the update with the default settings and lost Acrobat XI when DC installed, and I've gone through the steps to uninstall DC, reinstall XI and am now trying to add DC as a second version.)

Any ideas on how to remedy, or is this simply a bug in Creative Cloud?

hi cwilson,

Can you launch CC app and update it to the latest release? Once done, reboot and then retry updating to Acrobat DC. Does it still crash CC?

Thanks

I'd say you aren't updating in either case. Only if you had Acrobat DC could you update Acrobat DC. What you need to do is INSTALL it. This will remove Acrobat XI but not Reader.  I think that's right, but Adobe have been mis-using the word "Update" recently which has confused the heck out of all of us.

Fair enough, and I agree with you.  See my reply to sukritd15... The Creative Cloud tray app says I need to "Update" Acrobat DC.  There is no separate "install" Acrobat DC option listed.

You will use Acrobat XI, so consider if you want to do this.

Hi,

Is Acrobat DC currently installed on your system, if yes let me know the exact dot version of Acrobat DC installed on your computer?

Are you able to launch Acrobat DC without any issue?

Aadesh

Hi Aadesh,

The Windows 8.1 system has Acrobat Reader DC (but not full Acrobat DC), version 2015.010.20056 installed.  It also has Acrobat XI Pro version 11.0.14.  Acrobat Reader DC launches just fine.

The Windows 7 system only has Acrobat XI Pro version 11.0.07 installed.  No version of Acrobat DC or Acrobat Reader DC installed.

Hi ,

If Acrobat DC is not installed ,how come you are able to update it ?

Also Reader DC is not part of Creative Cloud package.
