Disable Display of PDF in IE 11 with Acrobat X Pro installed

Ever since I installed Acrobat X Pro on my system, I am unable to get PDFs to display outside of the Internet Explorer 11 browser window.

I have followed the steps provided in the following article, and it makes no difference if the Adobe Extensions are enabled or not.

I have toggled these extensions on and off, with browser and system restarts, with no effect.

I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit

Please provide another method to fix this problem.

P.S. It would be great if the Adobe Acrobat Installer would recognized that I already had the extensions disabled when I was using Reader, and not change the settings when I upgrade.
