Download and Installation of Acrobat Reader DC to a Macbook Pro OS 10.11.6

I'm trying to install Acrobat Reader DC. The installer completes installation to the 63% point then jumps to "Finish".  However, every time it finishes just sends me to the Adobe - Download Adobe Acrobat Reader DC webpage indicating the install has failed. It gives no diagnosis as to what the problem is, nor any specific steps forward (it just directs me to instructions on how to download and run the installer). Running MAC OS 10.11.6. Any advise on next steps would be appreciated?
