I purchased Adobe Acrobat DC Standard this afternoon and downloaded the installer (Acrobat_2015_Web_WWMUI.exe) and when the program runs, it asks to extract installation files, it creates a folder on the desktop, but the folder is empty. I have tried re-downloading and installing several times, same result. Any advice?

If its a subscription download it using this link Download and install Adobe Acrobat DC
Else if its a perpetual licence download it using this link Download Adobe Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | DC, XI, X
Make sure you are installing it on a compatible OS System requirements | Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, Acrobat Standard DC
