Edit renderable text

We have a collection of PDFs that have been created from scanned, handwritten, notebooks. There is a text layer within the PDF. However, because the notebooks were handwritten, the text layer/OCR is very poor quality.

We'd like to edit this text layer. However, I can't figure out how. When I use the "text recognition - find first suspect" option, I get the message "this page contains renderable text". When I click the "layers" button, nothing shows up.

How do I get to the renderable text and edit it?

With the latest release of Acrobat on 11th April 2017, the issue of error "Page contains renderable text" has been resolved. Go to What's new in Adobe Acrobat DC for more details.

To get the latest product update, click on the menu Help-> Check for updates

Thanks.

OCR does not "do" handwritten.

Using Acrobat Pro one can export an OCR output to a text file. That can be brought into a word processor for cleanup and keyboarding to match the image of the handwritten.

Or, export the image of the handwritten content. Use ICR software to develop an output of recognized characters.

Thanks, CtDave. I can't figure out how to export the OCR to a text file. Can you provide instructions? I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.

Thanks, Lovekesh. I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on a Win 7 platform.

Here's the first page of one of the PDFs: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29347274/testpdf1p.pdf
