Error when creating pdf - %%[Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: &I1S]%%

I got a log document when I tried to create a pdf of a Word document with tracked changes. I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. The document was a .docx. In case you need it, I am using Office 2016 on Windows 7. The error message is:

%%[ProductName: Distiller ]%%

%%[Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: &I1S]%%

%%[Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

%%[Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ]%%

What happened and how can I fix this? Thanks.

The messages that you are receiving are from Acrobat Distiller denoting PostScript errors. Such errors can occur if you create PDF via distillation of PostScript, the process that occurs when you print to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance. When you create PDF via the Save as Adobe PDF feature in PDFMaker installed by Acrobat, PDF is generated directly. This isn't any stink'in PostScript involved and as such, you can't get any PostScript error messages!!!

Note that unless you are inserting EPS-based graphics files in Microsoft Office applications, you should really not create PDF by printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance.

Can we assume that you have updated both Acrobat DC and Office 2016 with all the latest updates? If not, please do so and report back. If so, if you can provide us with a sample Word file that exhibits this problem, we'd be glad to check it ourselves here at Adobe.

I just tried it with another document and got this error message, which also appeared last time. It shut down Word. Is there some way to do some sort of repair on the Adobe add-in?

As I previously indicated to you, you can only get this error message when you print to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance as opposed to using the Save as Adobe PDF PDFMaker option which doesn't deal at all with PostScript. Printing to generate PostScript doesn't even invoke the PDFMaker plug-in and if such printing shuts down Word, it is highly unlikely that any Adobe software has anything to do with that shut down.

What happens when you use the Save as Adobe PDF PDFMaker option to create PDF?

Likewise, as I previously indicated, without you providing a sample file, there is no way we can investigate what might be going on (i.e., reproduce the problem internally) since this is not a previously-reported issue.

I tried two ways, which had the same error message. The first time I tried using the “Create PDF” function in the Acrobat ribbon in Word. The 2nd time I tried to print the document to the Adobe PDF printer.

Hi ,

Try to replicate this with another Word file and see if you still experience the issue.

Also check if Acrobat is updated to the latest patch.
