Hello,

I have a PDF that cannot be opened with Preview on Mac OS X, nor does the OS X QuickLook functionality work with this PDF.  When attempting to open this PDF using Preview on Mac OS X or attempting to preview it using QuickLook, this error message appears.

Google has lead me to believe that this message has something to do with the pdf being created in Adobe LiveCycle, which adds Adobe-specific features.

I don't need any of that Adobe LiveCycle data.  I cannot go back to the source and create the PDF from scratch.  How do I strip out the Adobe LiveCycle data and create a PDF that can be opened with Preview on Mac OS X and can also be viewed when invoking QuickLook on Mac OS X?

Thanks for reading!

It's not Adobe-specific really, it's XFA-specific. PDF forms can either be Acroforms (created with Acrobat) or XFA forms (created with LiveCycle Designer). They are very different formats and it might not be possible to convert from XFA to PDF (e.g., for dynamic XFA forms). If you have access to Acrobat, you can try opening it and printing to the PDF printer to convert it to a static PDF. This may not be possible if the document has security restrictions though.

Thanks for responding.  I was unable to use the PDF printer to convert it to a static PDF.  I used an intermediate step of converting this XFA-specific PDF to Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), followed by converting the EPS to a static PDF.
