From time of puchase how long do i need to wait to activate, have tried to activate my dc pro after purchase but did not accept the serial number.

Ok, suggests the problem may be the download. What is the full name of the installer image file you downloaded to your Mac?

There is no delay in accepting serial numbers. Did you buy direct from Adobe? Does it use the words "serial number" in your sales material, or does it say something else like "entitlement code" for example?
