How can I clean up my PDF-to-Excel exports?

Hi there:

I have a significant number of PDFs that I need to export to Excel, and while DC does this functionally, the output is pretty awful.  I get a ton of merged cells, and at least 40-60 columns when the actual output would easily fit in a standard Excel row with 4-5 columns.  The fonts are wholly inconsistent - some are 6 point, while others are 36-40 point.

If someone has some tips about how I might be able to dissect the source PDFs to assist in cleaning things up, I am all ears.  For those who might be familiar with Checkpoint firewall PDFs, that is what I am trying to export.
