How can I craete a watermark that is a large symbol rather than text?

Question

I'd like to insert a large X across a page -- to indicate that the page should be ignored.  Can I do this with a watermark?I am using Acrobat XI, v.11.0.18thanks.

As Bernd explained, you can modify the location where the "X" gets placed. However, if this is something that changes on a per page basis, chances are that you don't want to use a watermark, but should look into a custom stamp. You can then place your stamp in the general area you want to mark, and then use the scaling options to adjust it's size. You do that by dragging the resizing handles on the stamp outline.

There are two ways you can add a watermark: Using text (and a large 'X' is still text), or using a page from a PDF file.

I would use the text feature and just use a very large font size. You can actually scale the text in relationship to your page size:
