how do i add my scanner as a device?

drop down says, "please select a device"  but when i choose the drop down there are no choices. my printer/scanner is not there.  but i am able to print successfully.  meanwhile the "options" button to the right of the drop down is greyed out.

To work, you must install a scanner driver from the software  bundle or download for the scanner. Not all scanners provide a scanner driver.

Please install latest scanner drivers and verify it.
