how do I do a mail merge using a .PDF letter?

Can I mail-merge a letter (in .PDF)?

If so, how can I have a field on the .PDF letter for the person's name to appear (from my Excel data file of names and addresses.) The .PDF doesn't seem to accept a field for the name.

You can perform a mail-merge on a PDF that contains form fields and a spreadsheet with matching data using some of the versions of the Adobe PDFMaker plugin for Office, or by using a script, like this one I've developed: Custom-made Adobe Scripts: Acrobat -- Mail Merge and Email
