How do I stop ADOBE Acrobat from crashing for MAC under OSX El Capitan 10.11.6?

Using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro  and it consistently crashes.

The Mac I am using is OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.6 (15G1004)

Acrobat quit unexpectedly. Code type is XB6 (Native) and the exception type is: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)  the application specific information is "terminating with uncaught exception of type std::runtime_error: CMutexObj::CMutexObj init lock error - : No such file or directory"

Any ideas folks?
