How to print pdf as booklet in Acrobat and keep proper margins?

When i follow instructions to print my pdf file as a booklet (8.5 x 11 folded) in Acrobat, the margins are not as printed as they are in the file - they are much fatter. I've checked every possible way to fix this and am coming up blank. What can I do? My printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8600 that has not had this problem before using other programs. Thank you for your input.

Unfortunately, there is no good solution to this problem at this point. The existing booklet printing feature in Acrobat takes into account “non-printing” margins of the page (i.e., the sections of the page that your printer cannot print on – most printers cannot print totally edge-to-edge) and adds that to the margin of the booklet.

A bug report / feature request has been filed to provide a way of Acrobat / Reader to ignore the non-printable area in booklet printing.

I am having exactly the same problem with Mac OS Capitan. It is not a question of "non-printable areas" since the margins are larger than necessary for my printer. I specified .5" margins in the original Word document and I get 1.25" margins top and bottom, with no apparent way to fix this. I agree with janr58110372, this is definitely unsatisfactory.

Yes, my answer is correct!

It isn't a matter of whether you have actual content in those margins and that is the problem. Acrobat assumes you do and shrinks the page accordingly. As I indicated, a bug has been filed to allow the non-printable areas of both the target printer and the original document to be ignored.

Hi ,

Try reinstalling the printer drivers and see if that helps. If you are getting a lighter print at your end, check the printer cartridge as well.

Sukrit and Dov,

Yes, I'm afraid you may be correct in this. I did reload the driver for my fairly new HP Deskjet Pro 8620 printer, but it made not a whit of difference. Thank you for responding to my plea. Surely this is unsatisfactory.

Sukrit,

Thank you for answering so quickly. I am using Acrobat Pro and my Mac is OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

I reviewed the Acrobat Pro instruction on printing booklets prior to posting my question, and it prints ok, just doesn't fill the page as much as it should and I might also add that it prints lighter than when viewed on screen. Perhaps this is more an issue with my printer.

I sent this PDF to someone to print who uses Acrobat Pro as well and they had no difficulty in printing properly by following the same instruction as you gave in your link (and that I also reviewed). They indicated they were able to darker the print, but I can't see how to do that.

Thank you,

Jan
