how to show/hide a field only when other field is populated?

I couldn't find the answer so I gotta ask for help. I have a few fields that are populating when I click a check box. What I'm trying to accomplish is to show certain fields only when certain fields are populated. Otherwise to hide the fields when the fields are unpopulated. Is there a javascript that would help me do this?
