I can't combine files because the first one has digital signatures that they say won't stay there, that I have to go to Settings, and I have no idea where that is - been looking and what I do find is too many options and I don't know which one to pic

You can't combine files with digital signatures. That would be like slipping an extra sheet into a signed contact.
