I currently have Acrobat XI, but am willing to upgrade if my problem can be solved. I want to be able to say that a PDF can be printed ONLY ONCE. Is that possible.

I author and sell books. I have been asked to create and sell PDFs of the books. While that's easy, if I sell a PDF, there's nothing that would prevent the company from sending the PDF around and everybody printing it.

So, I'm looking for a solution to that problem.

Here's hoping there's a solution.

Upgrading is not going to help. No version of Acrobat can do that.

The only way this can be achieved (and I'm not even 100% sure about that) is by using DRM technology, which is very expensive.

Darn, but thanks..... Here's what I am going to do... Make a 40% off price for the Individual Print version, and a 20% off price for the Enterprise Version. I'm also going to have a message on the cover that essentially says that:

Individual Purchase: The purchaser of this PDF has agreed not to duplicate this PDF for multiple individuals or to place it on a server for downloading and subsequent access.

Enterprise Purchase: The purchaser of this PDF is allowed to print this PDF for multiple individuals and to place this PDF on a server for downloading and subsequent access.

The difference in price will ONLY be $10.

  1. $40 for the pre-printed version that is sent via UPS or overseas mail that the purchaser pays for in advance.
  2. $30 for the Enterprise PDF that is emailed
  3. $20 for the Individual PDF that is emailed

So while I cannot stop them maybe the small difference in price and the "possibility" of a conscience will cause the Enterprise purchase.

Thoughts?
