I go to Edit>>Preferences I am unable to access Preferences

I have Acrobat DC PRO V2015.006.30119, which was recently installed by my company on my laptop running Windows 7.  This software is very clunky and slows my computer down.  My particular problem is when I go to Edit>>Preferences, I get the little blue circle of doom and the program hangs up and just sits there wasting my time.  Why can I not access my preferences and how do I fix it?
