You can do it using this (paid-for) tool I've developed: Custom-made Adobe Scripts: Batch Edit Zoom Level in Bookmarks

Hello Jessica,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. AS per the description above, you want to set inherit zoom in all the bookmarks you have in your PDF on one go, Is that correct?

You can try the following steps mentioned below:

  • Open the bookmark navigation pane.  Do this by left-clicking the bookmark icon located on the left side of the screen.
  • Highlight one Bookmark and then press Ctrl+A(for Windows) or Cmd+A(for Mac).
  • Right Click>Properties.
  • Click on Actions>Under Add an Action>Choose "Execute a Menu Item".
  • In Actions section,>Highlight "Go to a page in this document>Click on Edit.
  • In Zoom>Select "Inherit Zoom".
  • Click OK>Click Ok again.

You can also try the steps shared earlier in this post.

You may also refer to the following Adobe discussions Inherit zoom - Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

How do you set the zoom level to Inherit Zoom for all bookmarks in a pdf?

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Anand Sri.

Answer found.

This works for Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, although I had to do the bookmarks one at a time (I'm a beginner).  I haven't found a default setting but maybe I need to look harder.

Okay, let's assume you have already created the bookmark, given it the name you want, and you checkmarked the Wraparound feature so that your bookmark can have as long a name as you want.  Now you want the bookmark to have the "Inherit Zoom" property.

(1)  Open the bookmark navigation pane.  Do this by left-clicking the bookmark icon located on the left side of the screen.

(2)  Right-click on the bookmark that you want to edit, and a menu will appear.  Choose "Properties . . ." from the menu.

(3)  A dialog box will pop up.  Choose the "Actions" tab of the dialog box.  The Actions panel has an upper area and a lower area.

(4)  In the upper ("Add an Action") area, the "Select action" operator should be set to "Execute a Menu Item"

(5)  In the lower ("Actions") area, highlight the item "Go to a page in this document" and then click the Edit button.

(6)  Set the  "Zoom: " selector to "Inherit Zoom".   Then click OK, and then click OK again to complete the job.

I have used this on a word processor document that I converted into an editable PDF file, using the word processor's standard tools.  Both MS Word and Corel WordPerfect have this ability built in.  In WordPerfect X7 it's a one-click menu item called Publish to PDF.

(P.S. Are you a lawyer fling a legal brief in the California Second District Court of Appeal?  Their local rules insist on having electronic bookmarks for every component, table, exhibit, brief heading and sub-heading, and all of them must have the "Inherit Zoom" property.)
