Install CS4 but problem with Acrobat

Installed CS4 on new MacBook. Shortly after, had problem with Acrobat. So uninstalled Acrobat 9 Pro at attempted to reinstall it from the CS4 downloaded setup disk. I select only Acrobat 9 Pro to install. The set up program gets stuck in the "Preparing to Install..." stage.  The setup package work perfectly installing CS4. Why is in now stuck in "Preparing to install..."

Acrobat 9 not compatible with OS 10.11?

Well that could be. I'm trying to run CS4 (circa ????) on one of the newest OS versions.

I'm basically a CS4 user, not a technician. It's natural (for the simple user) to think that since they are packaged together, if CS4 is compatible so is Acrobat. You are suggesting that such is not the case.

I really don't want to go through the uninstall-cleaner-reinstall process only to find that Acrobat 9 Pro is not compatible, Where can I find out definitely if it is or not?

Might have to purchase new Acrobat.

I can see why you would assume that, but you need to look at it in another way. CS4 was released in 2008, and supported on the system of the day. It was maintained until 2010 when CS5 came along. At that point the current Mac OS was 10.6. After that, from the point of view of compatibility, it is frozen. Now, each time there's a new Mac OS (or Windows), Apple (or Microsoft) make changes: some deliberate, some accidental. In the process, sometimes they break old apps. So  nothing in CS4 was written for Mac OS 10.11, nothing in CS4 was tested in 10.11, and nothing will be fixed if it doesn't work in 10.11. But it's entirely normal that some things in a suite stop working, while others keep going. 5 years is an enternity in the world of Mac OS, and every few years Apple make changes that stop ALL old apps working.

Please try uninstalling CS4 using cleaner tool. Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Then download CS4  from this link: Download Adobe Creative Suite 4 products

Make sure you are installing it on a compatible OS.
