Internet Explorer add-in for Acrobat x64

On Internet Explorer. When I use the 64-bit version of the Acrobat add-in, it seems to launch the Acrobat.exe process, unlike the 32-bit version.
That is fine, but it seems to force Protected Mode to be applied and I cannot access the UserData file from the plugin.
Is there a setting that exists to prevent Protected Mode from being applied when Acrobat is launched as an IE add-in?

In addition to Adobe Acrobat's Protected View sandboxing (Protected Mode if on Adobe Reader), the IE 11 (64-bit) also include its own Enhanced Protected Mode.

In which case you may want to disable it, and also manually set the Internet zones.

See here:

This is entirely different from Adobe Acrobat's Protected View:

TIP:

Ensure that both IE 11 and Acrobat are 64-bitand not a mix of 32-bit IE 11 and 64-bit version of Adobe Acrobat.

Even when I turned off IE x64's extended protected mode, the protected mode of Acrobat launched from it remained enabled.

What a pain!

I will continue to dig some more about this.

I will post back.

IE 11 is indeed phased out and no longer supported by Microsoft.

You must disable or uninstall IE 11 completeley and use the new Microsoft Edge web browser, or leave IE 11  installed but enable Internet Explorer Mode in the Microsoft Edge web browser (for legacy support).

As mentioned by @Takahagi0002 , you must make Adobe Acrobat Pro the default PDF handler for the operating system (not Microsoft Edge), and also configure that setting in the web browser (i.e. download PDF files instead of opening them in the web browser).

IE could stop working with Acrobat at any time, since MS dropped IE support last year. They aren't likely to test the browser plug-in any more at all, since no supported browsers use it. Not saying that's the cause, but the writing is on the wall for your workflow. If you had a working mix of Acrobat, IE and Windows, consider freezing it (considering all the raises entailed).

IE is currently almost the only browser that works with local file XSL templates. There is an old industry standard that used this technology to index PDF files in XML so they could be referenced by browsers, and users still use IE to view old archive indexes.
Eventually, I advised users to disable IE's PDF Viewer add-in and launch Acrobat to read PDF files.
