Hi Waseeley -

You can search any document containing captured text without constructing or maintaining an index. Indexes aren't embedded into documents. Instead, an index, using the .pdx extension, is associated with one or more documents. There isn't any way to tell without testing whether an index is associated with a particular document, which is why it's important to maintain documentation if you're using indexed content.

To use an existing index:

  1. Choose Edit > Advanced Search.
  2. Click the Show More Options link at the bottom to expand the pane.
  3. Click Look In and choose Select Index.
  4. Locate and select your associated index, and click OK. You’ll now see Currently Selected Indexes display in the Look In menu.
  5. Proceed with your search as usual.
