Is it possible to export the data from fillable fields into indesign?

Just the basics:

I'm on a mac, running CC

We are circulating PDF forms where users have to input information. Instead of copying and pasting the data into indesign, we wanted to see if there was a way to export the inputted data directly into indesign? I've attempted to export the data into excel but we're running excel for mac 2011 and I'm wondering if there's a compatibility issue with the exports (constantly have to be repaired). I also find that when the files are repaired that the entire form is included.

If I cannot do a direct export to indesign is there a way that I can export just the filled data to excel and create my own .csv to do a data merge in indesign?

Thanks,

Rich

Correct answer Karl Heinz Kremer

It worked! Though one field didn't show up on my text document or import. I'm guessing that when I enter the fields in the quotes the upper/lower case text of the field names has to match? Otherwise Karl & Try67 you two are awesome! Thanks so much for the help!

Yes, JavaScript is case sensitive, so the name of a field needs to be used the same way it was defined in the form. If you have a field named "The field 1", you cannot access it via "The Field 1" - These two field names are different.

InDesign is not suited for data collection. It's a tool for doing layout and designing a file, not process data.

If you have the data in form fields in the PDF then you can export it to a plain-text file, which you can then open in Excel and process further.

I use indesign all the time with the data merge function to process data from cvs files, which makes it work just fine for data collection. The question is how do I export just the filled data from a pdf without bringing in the rest of the form. I don't care what program I have to export it to, I just want what the user is inputting. I can figure out the rest.

OK... Well, you can do it in Acrobat via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Export Form Data...
