A digital signature isn't like a signature on a sheet from a document. Think of it more like the whole document being bundled up, and sealed in an envelope. The signature is on the envelope and used to detect tampering. This means it is impossible to add a page to a signed document without needing a new signature.

The problem is trying to move from paper-based to digital signatures. They aren';t the same sort of thing. On no account would anyone digitally sign a document without reading the WHOLE thing. The signature isn't on a page, and indeed it is vital to train your users NEVER to look at the page to see if a document is signed. They need to check the signature view, because a stamp on a page could be faked in seconds.

However, as a transition aid or where the signature may be uncheckable (e.g. if it is printed), you may indeed do what you want by stamping pages and only then adding a digital signature.

I would add: if a document is being signed with a DIGITAL signature (rather than a scribble) more than once by the SAME signature, the workflow is VERY wrong and should be redesigned.

Hi,

Thank you both for your reply. Sorry if the following is a dumb question: can you explain to me why the digital signature is only necessary on one page? My company is trying to use this feature to replace the printing, signing and scanning of documents. We need to keep all of our documentation in accordance with GDP. Before, we would put our initials, date, a document reference number and a page number on every page of a document (handwritten). Now, we are trying to figure out a way to have all that information with a digital signature. If it's not possible, we could put the digital signature on the first page, and then a footer on every page with our initials/date/doc ref/page #.. what do you think??

I guess you want to include this information in the digital signature appearance. Why?

Digital Signature applies to the whole document, so the page on which it appears is irrelevant. What do you mean by document #? It may have some special meaning to you but Acrobat knows nothing about it.
