is there a way to permanently prevent Windows Edge from taking default from adobe for pdfs

Question

apparently a common problem is that the Edge browser grabs the default status for opening pdfs away from Adobe Acrobat. There are several articles about how to change a registry key, and one on the MS Tech site on how to make a backup and restore of all defaults because it's a known bug.

I can reset it in settings, but everytime there's a major update, and sometimes twice a day for no reason, Edge grabs back the default.

i have win 10 and have gotten several os updates lately and haven't encountered that problem.

anyway, if there's a bug it would be with ms overriding your system preferences, not the fault of adobe failing to lock out ms from making changes.. i noticed i keep getting edge and the ms store in my taskbar with updates but those are pretty easy to unpin.
