Keeping work from a form when design is changed

I've been working on a form sent to me by a designer, and being new to this particular aspect, it's taken ages. The form has just been changed slightly and I've been sent the updated version by the designer. As only a couple of small things changed 95% of the elements I've placed on the page could be reused - but when I tried to paste the fields and boxes into the new PDF, they weren't in the correct position, unlike had this been done with a "Paste In Place" in something like InDesign.

What's the best procedure for doing this? Surely I don't have to start from scratch?

Open the file with the fields and other things you've added and then go to Tools - Pages - Replace and select the new file.

The new pages will be inserted instead of the old ones but all of your "objects" will remain in place.

If you ever need to do a paste in place when pasting fields, you'll need Acrobat 11 or DC. It's a bit awkward and you have to be in form editing mode for it to work, but you do it by first copying the fields, and then hold down the Shift key while selecting the "Edit > Paste" menu item.

Another trick is to create a temporary button in one of the corners of the page (whichever is most convenient) and drag the two borders nearest the edge of the page to the edges of the page. You can then copy & paste the fields, including the button. After you paste the fields and while they are all still selected, drag the temporary button to the corner it was originally and all of the other fields will be placed correctly. Then delete the button.

Thanks so much for this, I really didn't know what to search the forum for - nothing came up! Much appreciated.
