Opening pdf mail attachments

Running XP3 and reader XI. When legit (undamaged) pdf files are received as e-mail attachments, they do not show as pdf, and an error message says "cannot find a file association for this file." Have uninstalled and re-installed XI. Any thoughts?

Could you please confirm if the files received in attachment are in PDF format.

Also check if the program associated with .pdf is set to Adobe Reader XI.

Please let us know the dot version of Adobe application ans OS installed on your system.
