Question

PDFMaker hyperlink actions

Using Acrobat Standard DC, Office 2010 under Windows 7.

My Word document contains hyperlinks to other (locally stored) files. After conversion with the Office PDFMaker add-in, the resulting links are of the open a web page type instead of open a file. When the mouse is positioned over the link, a small letter W is shown). Clicking on such a link opens the default browser first, followed by Adobe Reader because the browser plugin is disabled. I expect hyperlinks to local files to open the corresponding application, not the browser.

In previous Acrobat Standard XI, this worked correctly, but was not 100% reproducible.

How can I control how PDFMaker is processing hyperlinks to other files (such as PDFs)?

Hi RadioMan57

Could you please let us know the exact steps you do create the hyperlink in your Word file.

Did you tried to open the link on your Word file to check how it opens?

Please also share the dot version of Acrobat standard DC you are using.

Regards,

Meenakshi

Hi Meenakshi

Tnx for quick follow-up. Let me answer your questions:

Hyperlink creation in Word:

Select word, press CTRL-K, select the target document, OK.

Have created a small test DOCX containing a hyperlink to a local file: C:\...\MyFile.pdf as well as a hyperlink to a file on a (mapped) network drive: \\srv01\path...\MyFile.pdf.

With CTRL-click in Word, both links open in Acrobat (if installed, else in Adobe Reader).

Resulting PDF created with PDFMaker:

Local link opens in Acrobat as expected. Network link shows little W when mouseover. After clicking, the security warning appears, then the browser opens, closes (because add-in disabled) and the target file is finally shown in Acrobat.

PDFMaker converts hyperlinks to the local network into web links. Why?

Software versions used (all in German language):

Word 14.0.7166.5000 (32-bit)

Acrobat Standard DC 2015.006.30060.

Hi RadioMan57

Is it possible to share both the files (Word and PDF) with us, so we can test it on our end?

If yes, please send the files to the email address I have shared with you on direct message.

Meenakshi
