"save as" preferences

Is there a way to modify "save as" preferences to point to the correct folder structure?

The current 'SaveAs' folder is buried in the system's registry. Setting/changing it can and has been done, but doing so is not what I would call 'for the weak of heart nor faint of constitution'. In other words, "Here be dragons!"
