Save Data in Acrobat Form Attached in Another PDF in Reader

Is there a way to save data from an attachment when it's opened from Reader?

I created a JavaScript enriched PDF form and attached it to a digital flyer. The flyer opens the attachment using the Doc.exportDataObject() method. Everything works great in Acrobat, but not so much in Reader.

When opened in Reader, the buttons on the flyer open the attachment in a new tab properly.

The form attachment, however, says data can't be saved. When I click submit, it also says the data won't be emailed.

Here's what I tried—none of which work:

  • Extending usage rights to Reader in the form that's attached
  • Extending usage rights to Reader in the flyer
  • Extending usage rights to Reader in both

When you save "Save", you mean saving the modified attachement back to the attachments? If this is correct, then no, this will not work in Any version of Reader.  To be able to do this the Flyer needs to have "File Attachment" rights. This is not one of the reader rights you get free with Acrobat. It has to be purchased from Adobe.

Also, if you are emailing the entire form, then another special Reader right is required. You can however email just the form data from Reader.
