Scan data conversion

In blood banking we use barcodes to scan blood types.  If our computer systems goes down, I have created pdf back up documents.  I would like to be able to use a hand scanner to scan the ABO/Rh barcode on the unit into a specific field (Called ABO/Rh) and have it convert the scanned code into a specific blood type.

=%5100 is OPOS

=%9500 is ONEG

=%6200 is APOS

=%0600 is ANEG

=%7300 is BPOS

=%1700 is BNEG

Is this possible?

- What are the steps you are doing.

- Where are you getting this message %9500

When our blood bank system goes down we either must use manual forms or pdf forms to released blood to patients.  On these forms you have the unit number that we scan in using a handheld barcode scanner (no issues with this).  On the filed for the unit blood type, if we use the same hand held scanner it does not interpret the scan as the blood type.  I tried to use IF THEN statements and that did not work.  I tried to create a field that does not show up with IF THEN statement to have it convert the scan code to a blood type in another field.  That too failed.  Now I am just trying to see if there is Java coding that would translate the scanned codes into blood types.
