Question

Script to search and Seperate based on Spreadsheet list.

Hi,

I have tried searching Google for this but can't find the right thing.

I have a PDF file with around 1500 pages. All of which are individualised instances of the same letter. Is there any way I can run a script that will separate these letters based on a list I have currently in Excel.

Thank You

Without more information, it's hard to say, but in general, there is a way to identify information on a PDF page - as long as you can describe exactly what it is you are looking for, and where that information is located - and then do something based on that information. We don't know what you have in the Excel spreadsheet, and how that would relate to the PDF document, so it's impossible to say if this would work in your case. Also, this approach is much harder - and potentially impossible - for scanned (and OCR'ed) documents.

See here for some information about how you could do that: Extract PDF Pages Based on Content - KHKonsulting LLC

Hi Karl,

Thanks for coming back.

Sorry, more information.

I'm running Acrobat Pro DC. The PDF is a file exported form a system and it is fully searchable, I am able to search using control F and it finds the details I need. Each page of the file is a new letter and each letter has a unique number to identifier the recipient.

The Excel spreadsheet has the unique identifier in Column H so I would need to have script to separate the PDF so that s new PDF contains letters only for those that are identified in Column H of the spreadsheet.

It should be possible to do it using a custom-made script, yes.

I've created similar scripts in the past so if you're interested in hiring

someone to do it for you, feel free to contact me privately at […]
