Security update for Acrobat Pro 9.5.5

I opened a pdf file and shortly received a notice box about doing a security update and I declined to finish what I was doing.  Apparently a big mistake.  Shortly the program crashed and I cannot reopen and keep it open for more than 30 or seconds.  In the brief time it was open I clicked updates and it reported I was current.  Until this event, the program worked fine for how I use.  I also found my Adobe elements program crashes immediately upon opening.  And I attempted to update Flash and the update fails, it gets to 90% and stops.  All worked fine until I downloaded and opened this PDF file.

The pdf file might be a clue too.  I had updated an agreement with COMCAST and the agreement is in DocuSign and opens in Safari and in Safari I saved it by selecting "Export as PDF" which it did.  Upon opening in acrobat Pro, I shortly got the security update notice.

So appreciate help in resolving what looks like a complete sudden denial of use of all my acrobat programs.

I have the Apple El Capitan OS 10.11.6 the latest

Maybe there's another external cause. No legitimate Adobe update will have touched Acrobat 9.5.5. It has security weaknesses but they will never be fixed. Did you update the system for instance?

no updates, just working with COMCAST and that DocuSign document in safari, and that "Adobe" dialog box.

do you still have the update message? If so please post a screen shot. There are no universal updates from Adobe. This is seeming more and more odd.

I did not screen capture the dialog, typically you update later if not immediately and it was dismissed.  Because I got the dialog box, periodically I get them to update Flash and I believe adobe knows when you open the software old or new.  So I'm not surprised in getting.  But being locked out is puzzling as I think I was at respectable sites.

This could be malware. Acrobat 9 is end of life and there have not been any genuine updates to it for many years.

Adobe has security updates that they indicate apply to this older software and I received the dialog apparently from Adobe offering an update which may have been universal to include Flash and not Acrobat pro specific which I now am unable to update. and I am seeking a late effort to accept that update.  I appreciate any advice to resolve.
