The trial version won't let me create a PDF

I am trying to create a book cover file in PDF. I have created the file in Photoshop, but the "Save AS PDF" function does not create the type of PDF I need for publishing a book through IngramSpark. So I downloaded the trial version of Acrobat Pro DC. It will not open a file that I save from Photoshop as a PDF. When I save as a Jpeg, it takes me to the subscription purchasing page online. I only downloaded the trial yesterday, so I should have 29 days left. Please help. Thanks!

1. Ok, that makes sense. Yes, you can use the Preflight function in Acrobat Pro to make this conversion.

2. Sounds as if something went wrong with making the PDF, if Acrobat can't even open it. For instance, this can happen if you choose Save as JPEG but type .pdf on the name. Not saying that happened but it's an example. Can you describe step by step how you save the PDF from Photoshop, including the choices you pull down. Still, sounds as if you may have sorted this.

3. Both apps: Acrobat Reader -and- Acrobat Pro. This is a potential minefield. Be sure you can recognise which one you are running.

1. In what way is the Photoshop PDF unsuitable? I can't really imagine how Acrobat could fix it, but if you can tell us exactly what conversion is needed we may be able to help. Normally though a book cover is not created in Photoshop but Illustrator or InDesign.

2. Acrobat cannot open a PDF from Photoshop? Strange. What happens, please post error messages in detail.

3. The subscription page suggests you are still running Acrobat Reader. Easily done, you will have both apps and must choose the right one.

1. IngramSpark requires PDF/X-1a:2001 or PDF/X-3:2002. I do not have Illustrator or InDesign. I have created several book covers in Photoshop in the past, but not for this printer/distributor.

2. It said that it could not open the file; either it was the wrong type of file or it was corrupted.

3. I am not sure what you mean by "both apps." However, I think I solved the problem by re-downloading the trial version of the software. I was able to open the PDF file, then I used these directions to change it to the right format: PDF/X-, PDF/A-, and PDF/E-compliant files (Adobe Acrobat Pro DC)‌

Now I just have to wait and see if the file works for IngramSpark. I decided to go ahead and post the solution in case someone else has this issue.
