Question

Trying to optimize PDF in Acrobat XI to reduce the file size but it's not working. I don't get an error message but the setting don't seem to take. Standard, custom or mobile settings do not change the file size.

Have serrated a single PDF from multiple files. Works like a charm, but I need to reduce the file size. I go to File> Save As Other> Optimized PDF and I play around with the resolution (pip) and compression. No matter what I do, the setting aren't applied to the file. After saving the file remains the same size. Tried using the standard configuration and mobile configuration and same result. Help!

Hi Christian Starr,

Could you please let me know the OS version on the system?

Also try referring to this article : https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-audit-and-optimize-a-pdf-file

Let me know if this helps.

Regards

Running OSX 10.9.5

Made a PDF from several 144ppi .jpg images. PDF is 19MB. I need to get it down to 6MB. Reduce File Size works, bringing the file size down to under 3MB, but the quality is really bad. So, I attempted to Optimize the file by reducing the resolution to 100ppi and increasing the JPEG compression. After I do that and save... file appearance and size has not changed. Remains 19MB. Have tried the "Mobile" optimized setting too. Same result. Every adjustment I make in the Otimize File settings doesn't get applied to the file.

Oddly, I tried making another PDF from high res .jpg files and the optimization features worked.

So why does it work on a PDF created from high resolution (264ppi) images and not on a PDF generated from medium resolution (144ppi) images?

Really don't want to recreate the entire project at a different (higher) resolution if that's not necessary.

Many thanks,
