Unable to install Acrobat Pro XI on Mac

Hello, I recently upgraded from Acrobat Pro 9 to XI (Mac versions), and have been experiencing installation failures.

When I first installed Acrobat Pro version 9, I was running an earlier version of Mac OS X (I think it was Snow Leopard), but since then have upgraded my OS periodically and now am running El Capitan 10.11.5. Recently I purchased a license for Acrobat Pro XI and have been experiencing errors. Prior to attempting installation, I uninstalled version 9 from my machine using the Adobe Uninstaller.

After the first failure, I found I was able to launch Acrobat Pro, but not all functionality worked.

I ran the Adobe Unistaller, rebooted, tried the installation again, got the same failure message, and again found I could launch Acrobat Pro but not all functionality was available

Again I ran Adobe Unistaller, rebooted, this time into the Recovery Partition where I ran Disk Utility and performed First Aid on Macintosh HD as well as on the physical drive. I can't say what actually First Aid does. In prior versions of OS X, Disk Utility included functions such as Repair Partition, Repair Disk Permissions, etc., but now all of these functions are gone and replaced with a single function called First Aid.

After this, I rebooted into OS X, again ran the installer, again got an installation failed message.

What can I do now? Is there an installation log file saved somewhere that I can read and post? Is there any other information I can provide to trouble shoot?

My computer is a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 with 8GB RAM.

Hi davidb66287241

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

You might try installing Acrobat using root user, visit this link on how to enable root user account in Mac: Enabling and using the "root" user in OS X  - Apple Support

Also, try to remove this file:  /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist and try installing Acrobat XI as a root user.

Let me know the results.

Thank You,

Shivam

I found the log file in \Library\Logs , but I'm not sure what to make of it. Adobe use to have a Support Advisor to analyze the log file. Is there anything like that now that could help?

Also, I was able to run Check for Updates in my nerfed installation of Acrobat Pro XI, and it found an update for version 11.0.17. When I attempted to download and installed the update I got the following error:

"The update could not be applied because the Adobe Acrobat application contents were modified since the original installation. Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat and check for updates again. Error : 1301"

This is a totally fresh i(but failed) nstallation of Acrobat, so I don't have much hope for uninstalling and reinstalling yet again. I'm grasping for straws here! Any ideas?

Still looking for assistance on this. Another attempt at installing the latest update failed. Another uninstall and reinstallation, another installation failure.

Interesting that on the installation failure message I am instructed to contact the manufacturer, but Adobe does not offer any tech support for Acrobat Pro and instead directs users to the forums, which apparently Adobe does not monitor. Very disappointed.

Shivam, thank you! That solution worked beautifully (i.e. delieving the plist file followed by installing a fresh copy of Acrobat XI as the root user). Installation successful!

You're Welcome.
