unable to open acrobat pro 9 after hard drive replaement and mac upgrade

Question

I have been working with the Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Acrobat Prop 9 for years with no problems. Recently I was forced to upgrade my mac OS to El Capitan and to replace the hard drive. Even though I reinstalled all data and programs from a time machine back up to the new drive, ever since this happened my adobe acrobat pro reader will not open. It freezes. I am not sure is this is a compatibility issue with El Capitan or a problem created from the new hard drive, but I would appreciate anyone's help and advice on how to fix this problem.

there is no acrobat pro reader. there's acrobat pro (costs money and you have a serial number) and adobe reader (free and no serial number).

assuming you have acrobat pro, uninstall whatever is currently installed using the adobe uninstaller.

then properly install using your serial number and the installation file. also, you'll need to allow unidentified publishers:

I had Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. Now it doesn't work at all. I tried uninstalling as directed. No luck. The link you included does not permit access for a downloadable re installation file. I do not have a serial number for the original program as it was a downloaded purchase in 2010. Is there any workaround here to get this running again? I paid for this program and don't want to have to buy it again.
