Question

Unrecoverable error has occurred when trying to scan document

I am moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on a new computer.   I successfully installed Acrobat X and it seems to work find except for scanning.  When I set scan options, it recognizes my scanner as Xerox 6180.  However, when I try to scan I get an error "An unrecoverable error has occurred.   The operation was terminated."  I was on the phone with Xerox for quite some time to understand this.   However, other software, both Microsoft Fax and Scan and VueScan scan fine with the drivers as installed.   Only Acrobat X has the error, and there is not enough information given to know what to do.   Does anyone have any idea what to do?

By the way, if I select Custom Scan and select the WIA -  Xerox 6180 driver instead, the scan works.   However, the regular preset will not let me select that driver.   It says that driver does not support presets.

This has all worked fine for years on my Windows 7 computer, so it must be some small difference with Windows 10.   Thanks.

Hi markadobelang,

Please follow this link - Acrobat X pro - Xerox Phaser 6180MFP-D: Won't start scanning - Error - Worked fine with Acrobat 8

Let us know about the results.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link.   I actually have the same experience as those in the link.   I can get Acrobat X to scan from the Xerox 6180MFP when I select custom scan and use the WIA driver, and then use the native scanner interface to select the type of scan.   I already have the latest Xerox scan driver, which is actually for Windows 8 but is supposed to work fine.   The Xerox support people had me try the scan driver for Windows 7, but it had the same problem.   After more than an hour with them, they said it must not be their drivers since the other software works fine--and said they could not offer any more help.  So I have the workaround that I can scan using Custom Scan.   Still cannot scan using the presets, even though that worked fine for Acrobat X on Windows  7 x64.    All over software I have tried scans fine.

Hello markadobelang,

I  would like to mention that we haven't tested Acrobat X on Windows 10 yet .

Acrobat X is now declared as end of support.

You can find more information here - Adobe Acrobat X and Adobe Reader X End of Support | Adobe Document Cloud

Thanks!
