Question

Users with Adobe Reader can edit text fields but can not submit and send by email

I have created an editable form within Adobe Acrobat Standard DC- the form will be sent to some users who only have Adobe Reader. I have a submit button set to mailto my email address when the user clicks Submit.

When the form is sent to a user with just Adobe Reader, they are able to edit text fields, but when the submit button is selected - no option to send email.

I saved the PDF as a Reader Extended PDF but still the sumbit button is not providing the user with only Reader the option to send by email.

Is there something that I'm missing?

Adobe Reader is required in order to submit PDF forms. Most web browser's built-in PDF plug-ins are incapable of submitting forms.

Visit the following link for instructions on how make Adobe Reader the default PDF viewer in  your browser:

If the user has Adobe Reader, how to they submit the form by sending it as an email automatically(Like you can with Adobe Acrobat)- the only option I have found is to save a copy and attach the file then send the email?

Note: In order for me to better diagnose the problem; please post a link to the PDF with issues or upload a screenshot.

Your Q: If the user has Adobe Reader, how to they submit the form by sending it as an email automatically?

My Answer: In order for Adobe Reader users to submit the Whole PDF and not just the data; the PDF needs extended usage rights applied to the form using Adobe Acrobat Std/Pro.

How to email the submission?

Answer 1) Using Adobe Acrobat; set the submit button's URL action to point to a mailto: email address:

Example: mailto:you[at]domain.com

Answer 2) Submitting to a server side script bypasses client-side email software; such as OUTLOOK. The script can send the submission using an SMTP account and respond with a success/fail message or redirect to a URL.
