when i print to pdf the text that should be there is just hieroglyphics

Sorry, I couldn't resist. You might want to give more details about what program you're using to create the source document in, what version of Acrobat you're using, and the exact steps you use to generate the PDF. If you can post a sample somewhere or at least include a screen shot, that would be helpful.

Try this, go to: Edit > Preferences > Language

and choose something other than "Ancient Egyptian".
