When saving a Word document as a PDF, how can I make it NOT embed the fonts (basically save as image only)?

When I "print" a Word document as a PDF the fonts are embedded. I'm assuming by doing this then it is possible to make the file editable. If I take a picture of my document and save it as a PDF then, obviously, the fonts are not embedded. I want to have a PDF like the second one, but as the document is several hundred pages long I don't really want to take a picture of each page. Is there another way take the saved PDF and take out the font embedding?

when I try "save as other" I only have a txt or Word online option. Oh well.

So you don't have Acrobat, but the free Reader. You can't do it with that application.

The reason I need to do this is because the person I'm sending my document to says that the font I used is "non-compliant".

Any idea what the different is between "embedded" and "embedded subset" is?

Embedded : the whole font is embedded in the PDF file.

Embedded subset : only used caracters are embedded in the PDF file, not the whole font.

It's possible to convert all the pages of a PDF file to images and then re-combine them as a new PDF, but as mentioned this is not a very good idea. If you're trying to protect your content there are other ways of doing it (like applying a security policy that prevents it), although no method is 100% secure.

Hi.

A text is a text and a font is a font.

Removing or unembedding a font from a document will not remove the text.

Why do you want to do this?

This is not friendly for disabled people and this will seriously increase the file size, among many other disadvantages.

If you ever thought that as a "protection", bear in mind that Acrobat and many other softwares can OCRize any image file

in the blink of an eye.

try67 - how do you convert all the pages to an image? The reason I need to do this is because the person I'm sending my document to says that the font I used is "non-compliant". He knows this because the font is embedded when I convert the document to a PDF. He also said I could just send him a "Flat image". I agree with you that this does cause other issues. As far as I know it isn't so much a security issue as it is a "non-compliant" font issue. I realize that either way I'm not actually changing the font (since I would have to do that in Word when I'm typing up the text) but apparently if he can't identify what font I'm using (because it isn't embedded) then it is okay. Any idea what the different is between "embedded" and "embedded subset" is? Thank you.

You can do it via File - Save As Other - Image...
