why can't I validate after upgrade even tough computer is connected to internet?

Acrobat Xi upgrade was performed. When I tried to access Acrobat a serial number validation screen came up with a validate button. When validate button was clicked on I received a please connect to the internet and retry. I am connected to the internet. Does anyone have a solution?
