Why do highlights appear black?

Hello,

Whenever someone sends me an adobe acrobat document, any highlights appear black and I can't see the text underneath.  I also haven't been able to highlight, even with text recognition, when I used to be able to.  Any idea what could be up?

Would like to inform that it seems that the information in the document you have is not having highlighted text, it appears that the information has been redacted .

Also please check with the security properties of the document whether it is a secure document due to which it would be restricting you to make any change.
