Adobe Education Summit Reflection: The More You Put In, The More You Get Out!

Standing on the stage at Adobe Summit to deliver my Ignite Talk, "The More You Put In, The More You Get Out," was a moment of deep reflection (and gratitude). As a primary school teacher and ICT Coordinator from Belfast, Northern Ireland, if anyone had told me at the start of last academic year that I would be sharing my classroom journey on a global stage, I wouldn't have believed them. Yet, standing under those lights, every step of this whirlwind path made complete sense.

My journey to Summit was driven by one single purpose: my students. Over the course of a single academic year, my involvement with the Adobe community evolved rapidly, moving from an ACE Leader to an ACE Innovator, and then stepping forward as a Student Ambassador pilot participant. What became clear along the way is that true educational community is a two-way street. While I was pouring energy and fresh ideas into my classroom, the global community was pouring inspiration right back into me. By showing up consistently in these creative spaces, my teaching transformed, and my students stopped simply completing tasks because they were asked to, they began creating with genuine purpose for real, audiences, and in some cases global audiences.

This journey has been amazing, and has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, but in doing so it has taught me how to be a braver, more creative educator. Hosting Innovator-Led Meet-Ups and participating in the Global Create-a-thon, with fellow NI Innovators Louise and Debra, opened up new possibilities for digital literacy in my classroom, and using Adobe Express became a bridge to deeper learning. For example:

• World War II Evacuee Packs: Students transformed standard starter templates into rich, historic evacuee archives.

• Interactive Fact File Cards: Everyday spelling tasks were adapted into dynamic Bird of Prey trading cards.

• Generative AI Storytelling: After descriptive writing about Greek mythical creatures, pupils generated visual representations of their text, seeing their writing come to life before their eyes.

Amazingly, that momentum quickly grew beyond my own classroom walls with the Adobe Ambassadors pilot. Partnering with another fellow NI Innovator Michael, we ended the pilot with a ‘Creativity Day’, where our young ambassadors stepped directly into leadership roles sharing their digital creativity. During our Creativity Day, these student leaders took centre stage, running peer-to-peer workshops to teach digital skills and build creative confidence among their peers. Seeing primary (and post-primary) pupils take complete ownership of technology to empower their peers and share their creativity was the ultimate highlight of our pilot.

This past year has proven to me that when educators lean into collaborative spaces, the energy invested returns tenfold. Showing up consistently not only transforms classroom practice, it completely redefines what our students believe they can achieve.
