Dear Sirs,

We have a counterparty, that made the opening credits for a serial film that we produce for TV and internet broadcast.

The opening credits list all the participants of the film and the font used for this - Futura PT Cond

He has an Adobe subscription and the font is included in his subscription.

Accordingly, the Counterparty transmits to us the finished product, which is shown within our serial film on TV and on the Internet.

Do we need to buy an additional license for the font mentioned above in such a case?

    Dear Sirs,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Based on the information provided, if the font "Futura PT Cond" is included in your counterparty’s Adobe subscription, and it is used for the opening credits in a serial film that will be broadcast on TV and the internet, you may not need to buy an additional license. The font license typically covers personal, commercial, and broadcast use as long as the subscriber (your counterparty) is using the font as per the terms of their Adobe subscription.

However, to ensure compliance, it's important to check the specific license terms attached to the font. Adobe often provides different licenses for different use cases, and some may require an extended license for broadcasting or redistribution. If your counterparty is providing the final video to you, the responsibility may fall on them to ensure that the font license covers such usage.

If you are unsure, it's always best to consult Adobe directly or review the licensing agreement to confirm that your specific use case is covered.

feel free to visit our website.

    Kind regards.

    Thank you for post.

The specific licensing requirements for fonts in film and television production can be complex and vary depending on factors such as the usage rights granted by the font foundry, the nature of the project, and the specific terms of the Adobe subscription.

    Here are some general considerations:

    Adobe Subscription:

Personal Use: If the counterparty's Adobe subscription is for personal use, it may not grant commercial usage rights. Commercial use of the font in a broadcast or online context could potentially require additional licensing.
Commercial Use: If the subscription includes commercial usage rights, it's essential to review the specific terms to determine if they cover the intended use in your serial film.
    Font Foundry Licensing:

Direct Licensing: Consider contacting the font foundry directly to inquire about licensing options for your specific project. They may offer specific licenses for film and television production.
Third-Party Licensing: Some production companies or distributors may have licensing agreements with font foundries, which could cover the use of certain fonts in their projects.

Regarding your query, since the opening credits of your serial film were created by a counterparty using the Futura PT Cond font under their Adobe subscription, the font license typically covers the creation and distribution of the final product. If the font is used exclusively within the finished product that has been transmitted to you, and you are not modifying or using the font outside of the received content, an additional license is generally not required.

However, it is advisable to review Adobe's font licensing terms or consult with a legal professional to ensure compliance, especially if you plan to use the font in other contexts or productions.

    Hello Olga,

It's great that you're looking into the licensing aspects of the font used in your serial film's opening credits. Based on the details you've provided, here are a few important points to consider:

    1. Counterparty's Adobe Subscription: Since your counterparty has an Adobe subscription that includes the Futura PT Cond font, they are licensed to use the font in creating the opening credits.

However, it's always wise to double-check the specific licensing terms for Futura PT Cond to ensure compliance.

    4. Consultation and Contract Clause: It might be beneficial to consult with a legal expert on intellectual property to confirm your understanding. Additionally, you may want to include a clause in your contract with the counterparty that specifies their responsibility for securing necessary licenses for all materials used in the project.

    5. Proactive Steps: Taking these steps not only ensures legal compliance but also upholds ethical standards in your production process.

For detailed information, you can refer to Adobe's font licensing page: Adobe Type Licensing.
